Karen Shore was first elected to Cheshire West and Chester Council to serve the Whitby Ward in 2015. A year later, she became the Cabinet member for environment, which included highways. Following boundary changes in 2019, she was elected to serve the Central and Grange Ward and was named Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Highways. Karen has been Deputy Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council for six years.

In addition to her responsibilities as Deputy Leader – deputising for the Leader and supporting Cabinet – Cllr Shore continues to be the Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Highways. She also continues to be a member of the Rail North Committee, a substitute member of the LGAs Local Infrastructure and Net Zero Board, and a substitute member of Transport for the North, in addition to regional and subregional roles as a member of the Cheshire and Mid-Mersey Strategic Flood Partnership and an elected regional representative on the North West Regional Flooding and Coastal Committee.

Karen was appointed to the Joint Committee, where she has played a supporting role in advancing devolution efforts, helping to shape and drive forward policies that bring greater decision-making powers and resources to the area, and she is the lead member for Health, Inclusion, Skills and Employment.

In her role as council Deputy Leader, Karen has led on many areas of the council’s work on environmental policy and in waste services, overseeing the setting up of the first wholly owned council company with cooperative values (CWR), and overseeing complete reorganisation in highways and transport, including the letting of a new term maintenance contract, with the ambition of driving up the standard and quality of repairs, improving the customer experience, and improving connectivity in the borough.

Karen has a professional background in education, working as a teacher and educator in schools and in the charity sector, both in secondary, post-16, and adult education. She is passionate about employment and skills and believes in lifelong learning and the value of education and training in improving life chances and supporting economic growth. She is delighted to be returning to her routes, in being the lead member for Health, Inclusion, Education and Skills for Cheshire and Warrington.
