Cheshire West Voluntary Action's (CWVA) vision is all about championing the community sector – building trust, influencing, inspiring – working with community organisations, as well as partners in other sectors, across west Cheshire.

Chief Executive, Gary Cliffe, shares his thoughts on how devolution could benefit Cheshire and Warrington.

What could devolution mean for Cheshire and Warrington’s future?

“Devolution provides an opportunity for us to have more control on local decisions and budgets. We can understand the needs of our local communities, work in partnership to provide the best possible services, and help residents live their healthiest and happiest lives.”

How can devolution support Cheshire and Warrington’s Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector?

“At CWVA, we work with around 500 community sector organisations in Cheshire West – charities, community groups and other charitable organisations. The community sector provides a wide range of invaluable services, and we can play a key role in achieving the priorities set out for Cheshire and Warrington through devolution.
“Our sector is embedded in local communities and well placed to understand the needs of residents, helping people to access the right support as early as possible. We see devolution as a route for our sector to access more opportunities, working collaboratively with others to create a lasting impact.

What do you think the benefits are of having an elected Mayor for the area?

“With a Mayor who has local knowledge and connections, we can achieve the best possible outcomes for Cheshire and Warrington. We’d welcome someone who appreciates the value that all sectors bring to society so we can work in partnership as effectively as possible.”
