Founder, Maggie Chen, shares her thoughts on how devolution could benefit Cheshire and Warrington.

What could devolution mean for Cheshire and Warrington’s future?

"Devolution gives us a real chance to shape a sustainable and innovative future that reflects the unique needs of people living in the area. For someone like me who works in the non-profit sector and is deeply invested in empowering young people and local entrepreneurs, devolution could bring decision-making closer to the communities it affects. It could mean more tailored investment in skills training, youth provisions, and enterprise programmes that genuinely reflect what our area needs, rather than relying on one-size-fits-all solutions from government. It’s about taking control of our future, unlocking potential, and building a stronger, more inclusive local economy."

How can devolution support Cheshire and Warrington’s businesses?

"Devolution can be a game-changer for local businesses. With devolved powers, we could see funding streams and policies that are more responsive to the realities of doing business in Cheshire and Warrington. This could include more targeted investment in infrastructure and innovation, and a stronger focus on developing local talent as well as attracting and retaining talent. For young entrepreneurs in particular, devolution could mean a more connected and supportive eco-system – something that is vital for nurturing bold ideas and sustainable ventures."

What do you think the benefits are of having an elected Mayor for the area?

"A Mayor provides an accountable voice for Cheshire and Warrington. It is someone who can unite us and drive real progress. Together, we can create an area that is not only a sustainable, inclusive, nice place to live and work, but also a place that is bold, innovative and forward-thinking. With the right Mayor – one who listens and engages with communities and businesses – we can ensure that local decisions are made with fairness, ambition, and a shared vision for a thriving future."
