They are committed to continually improving, adapting, and responding to the needs of customers and communities through investing in homes, enhancing local services, and supporting residents in times of need.

Chief Executive, Wayne Gales, shares his thoughts on how devolution could benefit Cheshire and Warrington.

What could devolution mean for Cheshire and Warrington’s future?

“Devolution gives us the chance to tackle housing issues in Cheshire and Warrington in a way that’s shaped by local need, not national policy. With more control over funding and strategy, we can invest where it’s needed most, delivering more high-quality social and affordable homes, improving existing housing, and creating vibrant and supportive neighbourhoods. It’s a real opportunity to level up our communities and give people a safe, secure place to call home.”

How can devolution support Cheshire and Warrington’s social housing sector?

“For the social housing sector, devolution could unlock long-term investment and greater flexibility, helping us to deliver the homes our area needs and respond quicker to issues like homelessness, inequality, and the energy efficiency of older homes.
“It would also, I believe, bring about greater collaboration and closer working across communities and other local public and private stakeholders, such as health services, local businesses, schools, and colleges, bringing opportunities for all, including the creation of jobs, and boosting skills in our communities.”

What do you think the benefits are of having an elected Mayor for the area?

“An elected Mayor gives social housing a stronger voice in regional decision-making. It’s a chance to have someone who understands the value of safe, quality, affordable homes who can champion investment in social housing as a key part of our area’s economic growth and wellbeing. With clear leadership and accountability, we can work together to tackle housing needs and quality head-on and build fairer, more inclusive and vibrant communities.”
