In early 2025, the government undertook a consultation across each of the six areas that are part of the Devolution Priority Programme (DPP), looking at the benefits of establishing a Mayoral Combined Authority in each area.
This consultation closed on 13 April 2025 and the government has confirmed that Cheshire and Warrington has passed the statutory tests to progress with a devolution agreement.
In September 2025, each of the three constituent councils - Cheshire East Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, and Warrington Borough Council - voted to move forward with establishing a Cheshire and Warrington Combined Authority.
Over the coming months, we will be continuing with our engagement work with residents, communities, businesses, and partner organisations across Cheshire and Warrington.
