Earlier this year, the government undertook a consultation across each of the six areas that are part of the Devolution Priority Programme (DPP), looking at the benefits of establishing a Mayoral Combined Authority in the area.

This consultation closed on 13 April 2025 and the government has confirmed that Cheshire and Warrington has passed the statutory tests and can progress with a devolution agreement.

In September 2025, each of the three constituent councils - Cheshire East Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, and Warrington Borough Council - voted to move forward with establishing a Mayoral Combined Authority for the area.

Over the coming months, we will be continuing with our engagement work with residents, communities, businesses, and partner organisations across Cheshire and Warrington.
